navlopomo07 02 video - today I was picked up from Eastleigh and driven to the airport & flew from heathrow, UK to tel aviv, Israel. the driver picked me up and brought me to Jerusalem. so this video shows some of the countryside (rocky hills) and jerusalem stone buildings along the drive. we went a back road past Modi'in rather than the main highway through the mountains as the traffic was heavy alog the main highway. the last part of the trip is one of the routes I take home each day, although it's usually dark by then.
I'm attempting to participate in NaVloPoMo07 this month by posting a video each day. my response to Cheryl's first post, which was timely considering it's Movember
the other night I got out of the taxi at the top of Ben Yehuda st and heard a loud BANG! then sirens started. I walked down the street to find that the main section of the mall had been blocked off. the police had just blown something up - maybe a tourist had left a bag unattended. the police man behind the truck was rolling up the wires and another walked back up the street. then it was all over. the street was only blocked off for about 10 mins. I walked down the street and took a look from the side - 2 mins later you would never have known it'd been blocked off. people were walking around again. there's so much security in Jerusalem - it feels really safe. ...
Vlog Europe is on this weekend, but they've just posted a link to the site where they'll be streaming some of it live - video of course! and a chat channel. the schedule looks good. they're going to talk about software, personal media, videoblogging and it's effects on big media, videoblogging and making content not money
Olam Qatan is a spiritual books and world music store in Emek Refaim St, Jerusalem, Israel. I spoke briefly with it's owner Ya'qub ibn Yusuf, who explained some of the music and books available in his store. Sounds like there's a fusion of East meets West happening in Israel and Turkey, which is really interesting to hear. It's great to speak with Independant store owners - their passion for music & books is contagious and it's great to discover new sounds and genres.
this is the view of the Dead Sea where highway 1 & 90 meet, East of Jerusalem. I stopped for a drink and to take a photo. then I drove down as far as Meseda - will have to go back another day to see more as I only stayed on the highway this trip. the desert is amazing - layers of beige. I was expecting lots of sand, but the countryside seems to be quite rocky. perhaps further inland there's sand.
this little fellow and his friend were doing laps of their enclosures at Australia Zoo when we went on 03/07/2007. it was about 3:30 - 4pm. I'd never seen a live one before, only photos. I thought they were nocturnal. we watched them for about 15 mins. so cute! they'd run around, stop at certain points and sniff the air. I guess they were looking for food? or could smell something in particular. or maybe the onlookers were too noisy for them (though most people were pretty quiet)
