Time_Place_Space 3

Photojournalism short course

This 3-day short course starting Dec 1, aims to enhance the participants` photographic skills and increase their understanding of the way photographs are incorporated within the printed page. The course is designed to run over one week, with classes on Mon, Wed & Fri and practical assignments set for Tue & Thu. Topics covered include: composition and light; photographic critique; ways to photograph people on the street; professional and ethical issues around photojournalistic work; use of flash; getting the best from a modest range of equipment; professional photojournalism; marketing strategies - and others.

How does a graduate of Computer Science at the ANU come to be writing about Cuba from the seat of a folding bicycle? Lynette Chiang will talk about how she went from learning IT on the ANU's DEC-10, through being an "Oracle oracle", to marketer and author. She will show photos from, and talk about, her new book "The Handsomest Man in Cuba".
