Public Forum: St Kilda Town Hall, 29th July 2003
Co-presented by Fair Go for Live Music, VicMUSIC, and the Esplanade Alliance
Fear of losing another music venue to the pressures of residential
development - this time the flagship venue of live music in Australia, The
Espy - has the music industry calling for those who value live music, to
show their support at a public forum on 29 July at the St Kilda Town Hall.
In May, over a thousand people attended a public meeting at Trades Hall to
tackle the worsening conflict surrounding music venues over noise
restrictions. The campaign, organised by Fair Go 4 Live Music, resulted in a
Live Music Taskforce being appointed by the State Government. One of the
terms of reference for the Taskforce is to consider legislative impediments
to live music venue operations.
Whilst the music industry waits for the Taskforce to produce some positive
results the battle goes on. We must fight to keep the Espy alive.
