Graduate Certificate in Sonic Arts
LCC, University Of The Arts London.
Duration: 15 weeks from January 2005
The Graduate Certificate in Sonic Arts gives you an opportunity both to
learn new skills and refine and develop your existing techniques, broaden
and deepen your practice and extend your critical awareness of trends and
issues in contemporary Sonic Arts practice. The course offers you a
framework within which you are able to evaluate and situate your own work
while extending your portfolio of creative and academic work with a view to
progressing on to masters level postgraduate study or to updating and
refining your creative practice.
It is designed for those with a background in producing sound based work
within a broad context of creative media arts practice. You may have gained
your existing skills through your professional and creative practice or
through courses such as the LCP Professional Development Award in Sound
Design and Music Technology and now wish to have a further period of
intensive study attached to a flourishing department in a newly built Media
School.
The course has three components:
* Sonic Arts Practice
To develop and extend your critical awareness of trends and issues in
contemporary sonic Arts practice
* Sonic Arts Project
To enable you to conceptualise, research develop and present and present a
piece of personal creative work
* Electives
To enable to learn new skills and refine and develop your existing skills in
areas including electro-acoustic music and composition; sound and space;
phonography and field recording; introduction to interactivity and studio
recording, mixing and mastering.
Students on the course will join other students in the department for our
ongoing programme of visiting performers and speakers. All staff members in
the department are highly research active and we are keen for our Graduate
Certificate students to join us in building up a practice research base in
Sonic Arts.
