The ARTwalk project has been a great success and has provided Hunter artists with the opportunity to show their impressive talents. The first ARTwalk exhibition proper still has a number weeks to runs so there's still a chance to see the jewellery, sculpture, paintings, installations, textiles and textures, graffiti and ceramics, mixed media, works on paper, photography, video artistry, mug shots, the greener city garden and of course the marvelous Cakeshop.

Gamelan lessons starting up again! A new season of Indonesian gamelan lessons is starting at the Royal Exchange (34 Bolton St, Newcastle - just up from the Herald offices). Beginners are welcome to learn this attractive percussion music, and the early stages are very easy - you'll be playing tunes within minutes.

HOWLfest - women's creativity festival in Newcastle

HOWLfest is a festival of women's creativity happening in the lovely coastal city of Newcastle, NSW 28 Jan - 1 Feb 2004. HOWLfest aims to promote women who perform original work, independent artists, women who have not had the opportunity to perform or exhibit their work before, as well as established artists in all forms of creative expression - music, film, art, theatre, spoken word etc.
