‘THE SOUND OF RED EARTH’ compilation - submissions wanted

Kaldor Public Art Projects are currently seeking submissions from sound artists and musicians for a free, digital compilation to be released later this year. The compilation is aimed at framing Stephen Vitiello’s work from ‘The Sound Of Red Earth‘ in a wider context, one that seeks to explore the prevalent themes of isolation, remoteness, distance, nature, environment and ‘earth’ through sound and music.

Submissions are now open for the compilation, with the curatorial selection being carried out later this year. Brisbane-based artist and Room40 label manager, Lawrence English - whose new collaborative release with Vitiello is due to be released later this year - will lead the curation of the compilation, which is also expected to include audio work from Vitiello.

In submitting work, artists are encouraged to consider the inspiration and themes inherent in ‘The Sound Of Red Earth‘. They are also encouraged to visit the installation during its run from August 13th - September 12th 2010 at Sydney Park, on the corner of Sydney Park Road and Princes Highway in St Peters. In addition, selections of Stephen’s work can be found at www.soundcloud.com/stephenvitiello.

To submit work, email redearth@wearethenest.com - providing a bio or artist statement and links to where the audio file can be found online (such as on Soundcloud, via download link or similar service). Alternatively, audio on CD can be posted to The Sound Of Red Earth, PO Box 721, Leichhardt, NSW 2040. Submissions should arrive no later than 30th September 2010.

‘The Sound Of Red Earth’ opens daily from 13th August - 12th September 2010. Stephen Vitiello will also be giving a free performance at AGNSW Art After Hours, accompanied by Lawrence English, on Wednesday 11th August at 7:30pm, and a free artist talk at Surry Hills Library on Friday 13th August at 6pm. A second work, ‘The Birds’, will be will also be installed outside the Art Gallery of New South Wales (in the entrance portico) from 11 August – 12 September 2010.
