Extrinia label launches the "Afterglow" podcast

BRISBANE, Australia - August 30, 2005 - In a call out to dark alternative music fans and artists, independent record label, Extrinia, today launched the "Afterglow" podcast at http://extrinia.com/afterglow. Afterglow will bring the best in music inspired by darker themes - romantic and otherwise - from new and emerging artists from around the world, as well as newly independent but established stalwarts of the Division, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Depeche Mode (and for those who've discovered they've held a long fascination with black eyeliner), Afterglow is set to re-awaken your faith in music. The show features "podsafe" music, where independent artists who own their copyrights give their permission to use their original songs in the show. "We've had a tremendous reaction from the artist community, and we'd love to hear from more artists in the genre", explained presenter and Extrinia founder, John P Shea. "Fans can also request tracks using the request form on the site, and playlists include artist contact details so they can purchase material directly".

Korean Polka, Melanesian Electro, Russian Tribal beats

Uber Lingua is St Jeromes' black sheep weekly event, keepin things real (in a sense) and exploring the wildly entertaining and sometimes somewhat obscure world of multi-lingual sound in the forms of Hip Hop, Dub, electronic sounds, polka, retro rock... you name it, it's been played !!! Alongside quality resonant residents bP and Raceless, the guest DJs for this Thursday (the 1st of September) are Open Channel's Program Director Andrew Garton, exploring his fave Korean stuff... He's obsessed! Along side Triple R FM's 'Killa' Namila Benson doing her Melanesian inspired groove thang, and Ang Fang Quartet member 'DJ Russian Disco' who prefers to be pretty obvious about what music he plays via his DJ title... read more or visit http://www.uberlingua.com/melb for more details

camera obscura in september - film & video screenings

Monthly screenings with a simple goal of showing interesting and experimental film and video works in an appropriate setting, comfortable seating - 5.1audio - large scale projection. read more or visit http://obscura.lanfranchis.com for details. Channel101 is a "living, autonomous, untelevised TV network, powered not by promise of reward to the artist, but by the artist's desire to reward the audience." "For the audiences that attend the live screenings, Channel 101 is a chance to sit in the worn-out chair of the fat network exec, drunk on the blood of lowly artists whose right to exist is given in exchange for their ability to nourish. If there are 10 shows in the screening and 7 of them are good, that means 2 good shows aren't coming back and the power of life and death is in your hands. Base your decision on whatever you want. You run the network. You pick the programming. Then come back in a month and see the next episodes of the shows you picked- plus a healthy crop of new pilots. Dump the whole lineup and start fresh, or keep your favorite show running all year. Unlike "real" television, at Channel 101, what you want is what you get more of, and the day you stop wanting something is the day it stops." http://www.channel101.com

NOMAD presents: ctrl_alt_del

ctrl_alt_del was the first sound-art festival realized in Turkey, in September 2003. It was a collaboration between NOMAD, Marres, Hedah, and Istanbul Technical University Center for Advanced Musical Studies (MIAM). ctrl_alt_del hosted by NOMAD and Istanbul Technical University - MIAM is being held in spetember 2005 and will be an experiment in aural stimulation and urban awareness. Taking the city of Istanbul as the ground for this experimentation, ctrl_alt_del seeks to observe, activate and cultivate a series of idiosyncratic possibilities this city provides, under the rubric of the 'buffer zone'. NOMAD and MIAM would like to receive interesting, provocative, experimental and sophisticated works. About 10 pieces will be selected among the entries by a jury to be performed during the ctrl_alt_del 2 festival on 22 September 2005, in front of an international audience. read more for details or visit http://project-ctrl-alt-del.com
