Trambience transforms a Christchurch Tram carriage into a small mobile music venue, in which the audience and performers trundle together through the city streets. From inside the tram musicians create an improvised soundtrack that blends with the sounds of the streets outside and the rumbling and rattling of the tram itself. Trambience is a celebration of the shared journeys of public transport. It transforms the familiar private rituals of listening to music on headphones or car stereos into a communal audio experience. Street Art: some see it as a way of reclaiming public space, to others it's reckless vandalism. Either way street art offers a communication platform in an urban environment otherwise dominated by symbols of the media and advertising. Emerging from the graffiti movement in Europe and the USA in the 80s, street art has gained profile since UK artist Banksy sold recent work for 1 million pound. Common Ground looks at the phenomenon of street art in two very different countries on opposite sides of the globe - Germany's art collective and design studio Via Grafik and NZ's street art crew Cut Collective. The artists walk the line between art and vandalism, creation and disruption; and share a common belief that "if the wall is kept grey, the mind will follow."
Common Ground is supported by a full series of public programs including New Zealand first LASERTAG events.

SCANZ 2009: Raranga tangata
The Weaving Together of People
Solar Circuit Aotearoa New Zealand (SCANZ) is the interCreate Research Centre's major project, a two week residency for artists, producers, writers, theorists and curators will be held in New Plymouth New Zealand from January 26th to February 8th 2009. Project partners are the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and Puke Ariki integrated library and museum.
Raranga tangata refers to the weaving together of people, a phrase used to describe the internet and adopted by Sally Jane Norman and Sylvia Nagl in their work. The aim for SCANZ 2009 is to weave an enduring fabric of people and technology, located in this place: Taranaki, Aotearoa New Zealand, Pacific Ocean.

"Phil Price's kinetic work is one of the most popular on the Viaduct walkway. It comprises 16 pod-like discs that move both individually and collectively in the wind. No two views of the work are the same, and herein lies much of Cytoplasm's attraction."

The Dust Palace is home to Sam Hamilton and Eve Gordon, experimental film and music artists who've performed and been based in Brisbane and Auckland. The site highlights their past and future projects and festival works.

Cross St Studios is an artist-run space, organized by young artists. It acts as a hub for networking as to nurture an emerging artist community. Cross St Studios will function as a platform for encouraging professional practices. It is an incubator for ideas that can be easily generated, executed and exhibited. Our emphasis is on creating the freedom to experiment with unconventional ideas and presenting them to a public audience.

The necks workshop / solo performances
The Necks FREE workshop and solo performances.
This Thursday the 28th of February Chris Abraham, Tony Buck, and Lloyd Swanton from Australian group, The Necks will host a workshop presented by vitamin s in association with alt music and the audio foundation.
The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. at the silo theatre, - (lower Greys Ave - Auckland city(and yes, the Bar will be open)) - and following the workshop Chris, Tony, and Lloyd will perform a number of solos.
This is a great opportunity to get an insight into the process of improvisation and performance both as a collective and as individuals.
The format for the vitamin s workshops offers all those who attend the chance not only benefit from the host's presentation, but also have the chance to play, interact, discuss and get feedback drawing from their knowledge and experience. These workshops are very much a dialogue between all those who attend.

Tending Networks: The 5th Aotearoa Digital Arts Symposium will address new developments, connections, and opportunities in digital, new media and electronic art practice in New Zealand and internationally.
The symposium will feature presentations by major international artists Young Hae Chang Heavy Industries of Korea, and Adam Hyde, a New Zealander based in Amsterdam. A wide range of artists and researchers from Christchurch and around New Zealand will present current projects, and panel discussions will focus on the creation of new work, including the role of community networks, the value of collaboration, and the challenges posed by exhibiting digital art.

I was checking out the NZ Audio Foundation website again today and came across a link from an email on the AF-l about funding from Damian from Frey. it's an interesting argument. I think Australia is similar to New Zealand in this way, but also at a glance I think New Zealanders have the creative support advantage over the Australians, or so it seemed to me at least, as they have MANY! support organisations helping the artists. will have to do some more research to see if my assumptions are founded.

I don't know what it is about these mud pools but I could watch them all day. I'm mesmerised by them - the sounds, trying to guess which one will explode the highest or next. it's a mathematical problem just waiting to be solved!!
