Reality Sandwich

Reality Sandwich is a web magazine for this time of intense transformation. Their subjects run the gamut from sustainability to shamanism, alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies. They hope to spark debate and engagement by offering a forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary (which, to our delight, sometimes turn out to be the one and the same). Counteracting the doom-and-gloom of the daily news, Reality Sandwich is a platform for voices conveying a different vision of the transformations we face. Their goal is to inspire psychic evolution and a kind of earth alchemy.

Andy Warhol retrospective in Brisbane 8 Dec 2007 - 30 Mar 2008 @ GOMA

Exclusive to Brisbane, Australia's first major Andy Warhol retrospective brings together more than 300 works spanning all areas of his practice from the 1950s until his death in 1987 — paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, films, videos and installations.

One of the most influential and important artists of the late twentieth century and the figurehead of Pop art, Andy Warhol created some of the most recognisable images of modern culture. The exhibition includes his important 'Death in America' works; iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Mao Zedong and Elvis Presley; and his Campbell's soup cans. The exhibition will show for the first time in Australia Warhol's early commercial work, Interview magazine as well as his late monumental paintings. 'Andy Warhol' will also investigate how the artist represented himself through his art practice, including his Self-Portrait paintings, Time Capsules, drawings, films and videos.

In addition to works from The Andy Warhol Museum, the exhibition includes loans from the National Gallery of Australia; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; the National Gallery of Victoria; and private collections.

The Australian Cinémathèque will present one of the largest and most complete surveys of Andy Warhol's film work to date. This major program of 53 films and 279 Screen Tests from the Museum of Modern Art, New York, includes many never before seen in Australia. Programs of documentaries, American independent cinema, and films for children will also be screened. Selected film and video works will also be shown within the exhibition. Screening details to be announced.

Super Massive - live electronic rock on the Northern Beaches - November 24th

MusicOz Award nominees Super Massive bring their creative and visceral electro/rock/alternative pop music to the Mona Vale Hotel on Saturday November 24th.

Sydney band Super Massive are currently nominees for a 2007 MusicOz Award: An impressive achievement considering that the band has not yet released a single CD, nor had a scrap of airplay.

Super Massive is the creative partnership of singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott, best known for his work with popular Australian band Machine Gun Fellatio.

The two found a mutual interest in aiming to create the perfect symbiosis of multi-layered synthscapes and the visceral impact of a full rock band.

FLOSS manuals works towards Richard M Stallman's Free Documentation ideas

Richard Stallman, founder of the GNU project and the term 'copyleft' wrote about Free Documentation in his book "Free Software, Free Society : Selected Essays of Richard Stallman".

"The biggest deficiency in our free operating systems is not in the software—it is the lack of good free manuals that we can include in our systems. Documentation is an essential part of any software package; when an important free software package does not come with a good free manual, that is a major gap. We have many such gaps today. "

"Free documentation, like free software, is a matter of freedom, not price. The criterion for a free manual is pretty much the same as for free software: it is a matter of giving all users certain freedoms. Redistribution (including commercial sale) must be permitted, on-line and on paper, so that the manual can accompany every copy of the program. "

FLOSS Manuals is a site dedicated to providing free and open source, FLOSS manuals on a variety of technical topics such as audio editing, VOIP, video editing, streaming, free culture, audio editing, media players, and more. visit their site to read the manuals : http://en.flossmanuals.net/
