Mark Facchin is an artist, designer and animator working with digital methods and materials to augment and investigate drawing and painting processes. He was a finalist in the North Sydney Art Prize (2015,17,19 & 22), was shown in the 2018 Head On Screens (Paddington) and recently exhibited Articulate Project Space (Leichhardt).

Both works on screen and works on paper will be displayed at The Augmented Canvas exhibition at invisibleart.space, showing anthropomorphic forms, noise patterns, virtual tracings and simulations of physics' properties, such as wind and flow fields via virtual brush strokes.

You're invited to the opening event on Saturday 06 December 2025, 1-3pm.

The exhibition runs 06-20 December (sat+sun ::: 12-3pm) at invisibleart.space, 141/2-18 Buchanan St, Balmain.

The Sun is Not the Only Bright Star exhibition held during Miami Art Week 2023

During the past couple of months I've been working on co-curating & project managing a digital art exhibition for Teia art community/platform, which included five Teia artists curated by our team and fed into a physical exhibition, "Tezos x RefractionDAO", held at the Nautilus Hotel in Miami (Dec 6-8th 2023) as a side event during Miami Art Week. Miami Art Basel was held at this time, in different venues. The physical exhibition resulted in a global meme on twitter due to their exhibition design — long story ::: #tezpole.

We also produced post-exhibition artefacts for Teia which featured the full 38 artists and 11 artist-curators artworks: an electronic (PDF) catalogue and online / virtual gallery exhibition, "The Sun is Not the Only Bright Star".

It was an exercise in decentralized curation, working remotely with 11 curators (myself included) and 38 (predominantly digital) artists from around the world, covering multiple diversity and equity groups for the artists that sometimes don't get featured as much as they should.

New Weird Australia project has closed down

New Weird Australia is concluding its mission after five years in operation, and will mark the moment with a three-volume set titled "Passages".

Each volume is curated by one of New Weird Australia's three directors - Stuart Buchanan, Andrew Tuttle and Innez Tulloch - and features 51 tracks from the project archive, including music from Holy Balm, Guerre, Kučka, No Zu, Kirin J Callinan, Oscar Key Sung, Matthew Brown, Chrome Dome, Mere Women and many more, with design by New Weird Australia art director, Heath Killen.

Since its inception in 2009, New Weird Australia has established a number of projects in support of Australian experimental music, clocking up over 400,000 downloads in five years, distributed through its own online channels and via its long-standing association with WFMU's Free Music Archive. New Weird Australia projects included its 23-volume compilation series, the acclaimed netlabel Wood & Wire, the "New Editions" series of individual artist releases, a long-running radio show on Sydney's FBi and a nationwide series of live shows.

New Weird Australia founder Stuart Buchanan notes: "When we launched five years ago, Australian experimental music was often frustratingly hard to uncover. We saw an opportunity to connect audiences into work that was beyond the fringes, and offer artists opportunities to widen their community. Although that mission could well be endless, online networks now afford artists easier access to fans and supporters, in ways we could not have imagined five years ago. This therefore feels like a good moment to conclude, to reflect on the collective achievements of all the artists involved, and to showcase some of the work that has made the project so compelling."

In addition to the 'Passages' compilation trilogy, New Weird Australia's netlabel, Wood & Wire, will release its final album featuring exclusive soundtracks recorded for FBi's "Ears Have Ears" experimental music program, with extended material from Fatti Frances, Rites Wild, Hollow Press and Cycle~ 440. The full New Weird Australia project archive will remain online indefinitely, acting as a record of a unique and vibrant period in the outer limits of Australian music.

"From Field to Publication" - Douglas Quin workshop

"From Field to Publication" - Douglas Quin workshop

On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June Quin will present a workshop "From Field to Publication".

During the workshop Quin will discuss audio equipment and field recording techniques and share with workshop participants his approaches to recording wildlife and natural soundscapes in environments around the world. Later, aspects of production such as the translation of recordings and experiences for publication in avenues such as films, games, artistic exhibitions and historical exhibits will also be discussed.

This workshop will be ideal for emerging and midcareer composers, sound designers, naturalists and artists with an interest in music and the arts of sound.

Places are limited and we will make selections by an Expression of Interest (EOI) process.
Residents from around Australia are encouraged to apply. Please note that residents of NSW will have the opportunity to access our ‘WIRED EARS’ (Emerging Artist Residency Scheme) subsidy program, which will assist them with the costs of attending the workshop, which will be held onsite at The WIRED Lab.

FUNDING FOR NSW ARTISTS

WIRED EARS The WIRED EAR Scheme provides financial assistance for emerging and mid career artists from NSW to attend WIRED Lab workshops and initiatives. For this intensive masterclass The WIRED Lab will be offering funding support to assist 10-12 emerging artists with the costs to attend the masterclass. Artists who consider themselves to be "emerging" or "mid career" are invited to submit a brief expression of interest (EOI) detailing their arts practice and how they feel they will benefit from being a WIRED EARS participant.

On your EOI please cite the cost of your return travel to/from Cootamundra NSW and keep your EOI to one A4 page. Also note that we don't follow the standard age determined definitions of "emerging" we expect you to determine where you place your practice and experience. Interdisciplinary artists are encouraged to apply.

WIRED EARS is supported by the NSW Government through Arts NSW, the scheme is currently offered to NSW based artists, we have offered WIRED EARS nationally in the past and hope to do this in the new FY.

WIRED EARS expressions of interest are due Monday 28 May

Trambience - Wellington, NZ

Trambience transforms a Christchurch Tram carriage into a small mobile music venue, in which the audience and performers trundle together through the city streets. From inside the tram musicians create an improvised soundtrack that blends with the sounds of the streets outside and the rumbling and rattling of the tram itself. Electrofringe is now calling for proposals for the 2009 festival. Electrofringe is a five-day festival of electronic arts and culture held from the 1st - 5th October 2009 in Newcastle, Australia. Electrofringe is part of a group of festivals collected together under the This Is Not Art umbrella. Electrofringe is committed to fostering creative and innovative use and re-use of technology and electronic artforms, while focusing on artistic development and skills exchange.

Solar Circuit Aotearoa New Zealand (SCANZ) is the interCreate Research Centre's major project, a two week residency for artists, producers, writers, theorists and curators will be held in New Plymouth New Zealand from January 26th to February 8th 2009. Project partners are the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and Puke Ariki integrated library and museum.

Raranga tangata refers to the weaving together of people, a phrase used to describe the internet and adopted by Sally Jane Norman and Sylvia Nagl in their work. The aim for SCANZ 2009 is to weave an enduring fabric of people and technology, located in this place: Taranaki, Aotearoa New Zealand, Pacific Ocean.

greg jenkins - composer and performer

greg jenkins composes directly with the inherent musicality of sounds, making harmony, melody and rhythm subservient to sonic texture and spatiality. He will often extrapolate sonic minutiae into whole compositions for example by "zooming in" on a tiny fragment of recorded voice then using this as the basis of a droning musical weft.

greg also likes to hit things; things such as suspended arrays of inverted flower pots; things such as beer kegs; and things such as midi percussion controllers which allow him to subversively remap non-percussive sound objects to percussive performance gestures. He frequently makes use of "micro-gestures" - subtle physical manipulations of computer hardware which control software synthesis engines allowing him to perform directly on the software in real time. greg is also known as "cactusman" due to his penchant for using a cactus as an amplified acoustic instrument.
