And this lecture, in her name and spirit, is intended to 'challenge the status quo and raise issues of importance in new music'.
Jon Rose is the most recent of these lecturers. For over thirty years, he's been at the sharp end of experimental and improvised music-making in Australia—playing fences for example.

The journal was intended as an open-access, scholarly intervention in and forum for debates surrounding media and culture with a strong desire to cross between the academic and the popular. This year, M/C Journal celebrates its tenth anniversary, and in this special issue we ask: what is the face of publishing today?

Video makers, media activists, software developers and artists from 15 countries across the Asia-Pacific will be gathering in Sukabumi, West Java from May 19-25 for an online video skills camp. The goal of the camp is to bring together open source software programmers, video makers and media activists to develop the strategic use of online video distribution for social justice and media democracy.
TX-AP is a joint initiative between media activists in Australia and Indonesia. It is organised collaboratively by EngageMedia (Australia), a video sharing website and free software development, training and networking project and Ruangrupa (Indonesia) a non-profit artist initiative supporting the development of art in the cultural context through events, exhibitions, research and documentation. 50 specially invited media activists and artists will be coming to Indonesia to attend the workshop and share their skills and ideas.
The camp will provide a unique opportunity for artists, video makers, software developers and activists to collaborate and share skills in a global context where on-line video communication skills have become an increasingly important strategy for activists.

JOHN FOXX & LOUIS GORDON Australia Tour 2008
As founder and former front man of Ultravox! until 1979, and subsequently via his solo projects, John Foxx's work has helped pave the way for a generation of electronic musicians. His debut album, 1980's Metamatic, is today regarded of one of the most pioneering albums in electronic music and created a new wave blueprint for the likes of The Human League, Gary Numan, Duran Duran and, in more recent years, The Faint to follow. Metamatic hit a cultural vein again 20 years later when Ladytron, Adult, Tiga and co were drawn to its minimalist, analogue approach.

a collection of audio recordings, field recordings and sound walks I've done over the years. most of these are on minidiscs or files not uploaded yet, so this is a work in progress as it's probably about time I sorted them out and uploaded some. not sure if they're of interest to anyone else, but they help recall memories for me.

Electrofringe 2007 programme is now online. This is one of my favourite festivals, and it takes place annually in Newcastle, north of Sydney, Australia. During the festival Newcastle comes alive with creatives from all parts of Australia and overseas. The umbrella festival is called This is Not Art. Last year's festival was really hands on, which made it extra fun. This year looks set to keep your creative juices flowing also, with sessions such as Physical Computing : 1, Radio Locus Workshops such as Build your own Radio, Mulchwerk, a Dorkshop Sense & Control, a Homemade Instruments workshop Gestural Control & Feedback plus heaps more. The electrofringe website has the full program and a day by day listing of each workshop / panel session / project presentation / gig and happening. The other bonus to the festival is stopping to chat with friends and strangers about the festival and projects everyone has been working on over the year. Darren Hayes of Savage Garden fame, has been working on a solo album called "This Delicate Thing We've Made". It's due for release on August 21st. Check out the video clip on his website for "On the verge of something wonderful" - an uplifting tune sure to be heard on dancefloors around the world. Apparently one of the instruments is a Fairlight CMI synth - nice to see he's supporting such a fine & influential Australian musical instrument. He's touring UK/Scotland in September / October and will be back for an Australian tour in mid October, but if you can't wait that long, he'll be in Sydney at HUM (Oxford St) on Saturday 4th August - his myspace page has latest dates and more details.
